Government Postgraduate College, Guna is one of the most important centers of higher education in the district. Guna is known as the “Gateway of Malwa”. It has a population which represents the culture of Malwa,Chambal as well as Bundelkhand. The total area covered by the institute is 54,328 sq. meters. The college was established in 1957, with only the faculty of arts. Today, it offers certificate and diploma courses, undergraduate courses in arts, commerce, and science, and postgraduate courses in Political Science, History, Economics, Hindi, English, Psychology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany and Physics. It is affiliated to Jiwaji University, Gwalior (NAAC Graded A++). The institute has also started a few self-finance courses like B.A. in Computer Application, and Sociology, B.Com in Computer Application, B.Sc. in Computer Science, and Biotechnology, M.A. in Sanskrit, M.Sc. in Computer Science and Biotechnology and PGDCA.
The National Education Policy (NEP) has been successfully implemented, with the introduction of a variety of vocational and open elective courses. The college has a large sports complex-the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Khel Prashal. The campus also has an open gym and an indoor stadium for badminton. The NCC and NSS units of the college have been recognized at the national and state levels. The college has been approved Under Section 2(f) and Section 12(b) of the UGC Act.
