Department of English

The Department of English offers UG and PG Programmes in English Literature and Language. The UG programme was established in 1957 and the PG programme in 1962. The UG course is in the annual mode and the PG in semester mode. The department has four teaching posts which are sanctioned out of which one is filled by an Assistant Professor and three by Guest Faculties. The faculty of the department contribute to research related activities by publishing papers and attending conferences, seminars, and workshops. The department has been actively organising expert lectures and workshops. Under NEP-2020, the department apart from teaching the Foundation English course also teaches Communicative English under Open Elective to B.Com and B.Sc first year students. The department organises screening of the films and encourages students to be creative and undertake activities like performance of the plays. The Department has a Scholarship Award entitled “Late Prof. Sharad Chandra Gupta Memorial Award For Excellence” in the name of Late Prof. Sharad Chandra Gupta who had an unfortunate demise in 1964, for students of B.A. English and M.A. English who get the highest marks every year in English Literature. The scholarship is funded by Late Prof. Gupta’s sister Mrs. Lata Mohan in honour of his memory and to promote English Literature.
